Despite the change of BOP penalizing the Lynk & CO 03 TCR, Thed Björk managed to maintain his pole advantage by winning with a lead of 7 tenths over his teammate Yvan Muller. The Chinese manufacturer thus obtained its second victory of the season after the success achieved in Marrakech (Morocco).
“I was afraid for my tires because this track is very abrasive, but Yvan was held back by competitors behind and that allowed me to maintain the advantage”, declared the Swedish winner.
Mikel Azcona (Cupra) completed the podium after taking the lead at the start over Andy Priaulx (Lynk & Co). The Briton finally failed in 5th place after also giving in to Johan Kristoffersson (Volkswagen) at the end of the race. The two-time World RX champion achieved his best WTCR result by finishing just off the podium.
After having had to move back on the grid, Yann Ehrlacher (Lynk & Co) finished in 7th place between Mehdi Bennani (Volkswagen) and Benjamin Leuchter (Volkswagen). Jean-Karl Vernay (Audi) finished at the foot of the Top 10 behind Frédéric Vervisch (Audi) and Nicky Catsburg (Hyundai). Aurélien Panis (Cupra) ranked 14th ahead of ranking leader Nestor Girolami (Honda).
The second WTCR qualifying at Zandvoort will be broadcast live this Sunday from 8 a.m. on Eurosport 2. Race 2 will follow at 13 p.m.
