Blancpain GT – Race neutralized at Monza after a pile-up at the start

The race management of the 3 Hours of Monza was forced to postpone the first round of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup under red flag after a pile-up involving numerous cars on the long straight of the Italian track.

C’est au niveau de la Bentley Continental GT3 n°7 du Team M-Sport de Guy Smith et de la Lamborghini Huracan GT3 n°19 d’Ezequiel Perez Companc that the incident started.

The Italian GT lined up under the Grasser Racing Team banner was hit by the Bentley before immediately passing through the grass and spinning into the middle of the peloton.

Several cars were then unable to avoid the Huracan in distress, the collective pile-up (from 32'15" in the video below) more or less directly involving the Audi R8 LMS n°5 – Team WRT and n°26 – Saintéloc Racing, the #3 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT23 – Team RJN Nissan, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 n°89 – AKKA-ASP, n°31 – Team Zakspeed and n°15 Black Falcon, the McLaren 650S GT3 n°59 – Strakka Racing, the Ferrari 488 GT3 n°51 – AF Corse, n°888 – Kessel Racing or the Emil Frey Jaguar G3 n°114 – Emil Frey Racing.

 

 

The race will resume in a few moments behind the safety car, with all drivers involved being in good health. The No. 7 Bentley Continental received a 15″ stop&go a few moments ago for being the cause of the incident.
