Blancpain GT – Juncadella places AKKA-ASP on pole at Silverstone

The second round of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup on the Silverstone track will begin this afternoon shortly before 16 p.m. with a Mercedes-AMG GT3 under the French banner at the head of the pack.

Author of a best lap of the British track in Q3 in 1'59″072, the Spaniard Daniel Juncadella hoisted the AKKA-ASP team of Jérôme Policand at the forefront on the starting grid, dominating by 225 thousandths the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 n°63 – GRT of Mirko Bortolotti, winner with Andrea Caldarelli and Christian Engelhart at the opening of the championship at Monza in Italy last April.

The second row of the grid will be made up of the No. 3 Mercedes-AMG GT84 – HTP Motorsport of Perera-Buhk-Eriksson and the first Ferrari 488 GT3, the No. 72 of SMP Racing from Molina-Shaytar-Rigon.

Fifth fastest in the session, Jules Gounon (Mercedes-AMG GT3 n°87 – AKKA-ASP) also posted the best performance in Pro-Am. In the Am Cup, pole went to the #488 Kessel Racing Ferrari 3 GT888 of Zanuttini-Duyver-Perel.

La première Bentley Continental GT3 n°7 – M-Sport de Kane-Jarvis-Smith signe le 12e temps, quand la première McLaren 650S GT3 n°59 – Strakka Racing of Andrew Watson only ranks 22nd.

Worse in the Audi clan, since the first R8 LMS GT3, the No. 75 of Team ISR of Clemens Schmid only finished in 24th place, just ahead of the No. 650 McLaren 3S GT58 – Strakka Racing of Côme Ledogar.

Note that the last part of qualifying was interrupted by a red flag in the very last moments, preventing several drivers from improving their benchmark, notably Alex Buncombe (Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 – Team RJN).
