Blancpain – Team WRT with three R8 LMS in Navarra

Team WRT can win it all or lose it all this weekend for the Blancpain season finale Endurance Series in Navarra. The Belgian team leads the Teams Championship with two points ahead of Marc VDS Racing, while the crew of the No. 8 R1 LMS composed of Christopher Mies, Stéphane Ortelli and Christopher Haase is only three points behind. behind Bas Leinders, Markus Palttala and Maxime Martin, the leading crew in the #4 BMW Z3. In order to optimize its chances of success in Spain, Team WRT has entered a third car driven by Frank Stippler, Oliver Jarvis and Filipe Albuquerque.

Pierre Deudonné, the sporting director of the Belgian team, explains in detail the team's choice to enter these drivers for the final of the discipline. “Oliver and Frank have done a fantastic job this year in FIA GT1 but have been incredibly unlucky. Having them by our side for the final Blancpain event is also a way of thanking them after a difficult season. Filipe is a very fast and competitive driver who already knows the R8 and is very popular within the team. »

Vincent Vosse, Team Principal of Team WRT, can only be anxious before this event which will determine the champions of the season. The latter nevertheless remains optimistic about the chances of his team, which has been in very good shape recently and which has solid experience on the Spanish track. “The situation is very tight whether in the Drivers or Teams Championship and our strategy could not be clearer. We clearly need to win these titles. We have a small lead in the Teams classification, which explains the choice to enter a third car to take the points, while we must obtain four more points than our opponents from Marc VDS Racing. Things can change quickly, as we saw in the last race at the Nürburgring and in the FIA GT1 finale. Anything can happen at this level of GT competition. The pressure is on everyone, but we can say that we have a little less than our direct rivals who have not finished in front of us since last June with the Paul Ricard event. »
