The M2 Racing aims to continue the German brand's legacy in series aimed at young talent entering motorsport, or at Gentlemen Drivers. Before it, the M235i Racing, M240i Racing, and M2 CS Racing represented BMW around the world. The newcomer is therefore once again aimed at customer racing, where BMW supplies the machine to the various interested teams for €98, who are then responsible for operating it.

Based on the road-going M2, it boasts 313 horsepower under the hood, with an inline four-cylinder engine. Weighing less than a ton and a half, the M2 Racing is expected to reach 270 km/h in a straight line. The car will be homologated from 2026 for use in various championships, starting with the Nürburgring Langstrecke-Serie and the Nürburgring 24 Hours. The BMW M2 Racing should also be able to be used in TC France, Belcar or Supercar Challenge, a Dutch competition that has long featured many Bavarian machines in various categories.

Several official BMW drivers are currently working on the development of the new car, which was unveiled this weekend at Oschersleben. Among them is Jens Klingmann. The German driver, ADAC Formula BMW champion in 2007, has been part of the family in GT racing since 2013, notably competing in the ADAC GT Masters, the GT World Challenge Europe, and the 24 Hours of Daytona.

“Buyers of a BMW M2 Racing can expect a fantastic entry-level car that is very easy to use, has extremely low running costs due to its close proximity to the production model, and is nonetheless a fully-fledged, high-performance racing car.”, he explained. “On the racetrack, the BMW M2 Racing delivers the same driving pleasure that is deeply rooted in the DNA of all BMW M and BMW M Motorsport vehicles. Our goal is to ensure that the BMW M2 Racing, thanks to its characteristics, is the ideal car for everyone – from the track novice to the ambitious racer. And I am very satisfied with the result.”
