C1 – First success for Neubauer in Grand Touring at Brands Hatch

For his first start in Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe (ex-Sprint Cup), Thomas neubauer (Mercedes) made it big. The 19-year-old Parisian won Race 1 at the Brands Hatch meeting (Great Britain) after taking advantage of a good pit stop strategy.

Starting from fifth row, his teammate Nico Bastian passed two competitors in the first turns. The German returned to the pits later; when the former single-seater driver returned to the track, he was in the lead! Pole sitter Maro Engel (Mercedes) exerted strong pressure on the rear diffuser of Thomas Neubauer's Mercedes-AMG GT3, without success.

“I can't quite wrap my head around it yet, I'm just totally excited, smiled the Ile-de-France resident in the closed park. I was trying to concentrate on my job at the end of the race and keep a cool head. »

The podium is completed by the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 of Mirko Bortolotti and Christian Engelhart. One of the most important comebacks was the work of Vincent Abril and Raffaele Marciello (Mercedes); Starting seventh they finished fourth.

The Audi R8 LMS once again experienced setbacks. From the first corner, Steijn Schothorst and Kim Luis Schramm collided, forcing Steven Palette to go into the gravel. All three men gave up.

Race 2 is scheduled for 17 p.m. French time and will be followed live on video.
