Dominating is not winning. This adage, Kevin Harvick will be able to repeat it this winter when taking stock of the 2020 campaign of Nascar Cup Series. Winner nine times, seven times in the regular season, and twice in the first laps of the Chase, the driver of the Stewart-Haas Racing will not have managed to achieve the necessary result in the Round of 8 to aim for the final in Phoenix.
“It didn’t go our way, lamented Harvick after the finish. We fought and he didn't miss much. You have to put it all together over three weeks each time (reminiscent of the Chase format) and it comes down to one race. It came down to one race for us tonight and we came up short. … We had a great year. »
Already relegated two laps after contact with Matt Kenseth (Chip Ganassi Racing – Chevrolet) and a puncture on the 180th lap, Harvick tried everything to return to the front, emerging in the top 10 after the 400th lap. Fighting with Brad Keselowski (Team Penske – Ford) for the last qualifying position for the final, Harvick was unable to get the necessary point by overtaking Kyle Busch at the end of the race.
Winner of the event yesterday, Chase elliott (Hendrick Motorsports – Chevrolet) will compete in the final in Phoenix (Arizona) this Sunday, facing Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing), Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano (Team Penske).
