Chase Elliott wins at Dover

Chase Elliott (Chevrolet) won the Gander Outdoors 400 on the “Monster Mile” in Dover (Delaware) taking advantage of a daring strategy put in place by Hendrick Motorsports. The driver of the No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro ZL9 remained on track when the race was suspended following Clint Bowyer (Ford)'s contact with the wall.

Despite his tires having lived 50 laps longer than those of his direct opponents, Chase Elliott was able to maintain the advantage over Denny Hamlin (Toyota) during the overtime which extended the race by 4 laps. By signing his second victory of the season, the Hendrick driver is the first to secure a place in the 3rd phase of the playoffs. It also offers the 3rd victory to the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 after Austin Dillon's success at the Daytona 500 (Florida) and his first of the season on the Watkins Glen road circuit (New York).

Kevin Harvick (Ford) seemed well on his way to repeating his performance earlier at Dover this season by leading for more than half the race and winning the first two segments, but the 2014 champion had to make a flag stop. green following a problem encountered with his left rear tire.
