Dorian Boccolacci: “Being ready for next year”

Two Sprint rounds at the Nürburgring and in Hungary and the grand finale in Barcelona in Endurance Cup were on the menu at the end of Dorian Boccolacci's 2019 season on the GT3 scene.

A career reorientation with a view to offering himself a future in the fold of a manufacturer as desired by the Cannes pilot. To bounce back after a prematurely interrupted experience in FIA F2.

“I started this year to gain experience and be ready for next year, confided the Frenchman to Barcelona. My goal is to be an official pilot and make a living from my passion. I think I have the abilities.

We have to make the right decisions and go to the right team, with the right teammates who can teach me as quickly as possible to be a manufacturer's driver in 2021. It is the objective.

There is also the idea of doing LM P2. I work on both levels. This winter, I hope to continue Andros Trophy »

Boccolacci's adaptation to the category went smoothly within Saintéloc Racing, which was able to reorganize its crews to accommodate the Frenchman alongside Christopher Haase and Simon Gachet, two sleuths in the category, the German being one of the best Audi Sport drivers in the current Neuburg contingent.

“I can learn a lot with them and I also rode with Stéphane Ortelli in the first Sprint races,” recalls Boccolacci. I don't worry and I try to learn little by little. Starting in Sprint allowed me to gain experience before arriving in Endurance and aiming for a good result in Barcelona (premature abandonment in the first hour).

There are quite a few parameters that change, notably the weight of the car, with cars approaching 1 kg. This is almost double the car. So in terms of the car's responsiveness, especially when changing direction, it makes a lot of difference.

There is ABS, traction control... We don't have all that on the single-seater. The level is very high, with many cars able to compete in front. To go fast, it can be quite simple, but to go very fast, it's more complicated. »
