Everything had started well for the official Lamborghini driver who started from pole position. At the wheel of his Huracan Evo, he made a cautious but trouble-free start. Behind him, René Rast (BMW M4 GT3) was already lying in wait! But the German driver had to fight to keep a place on the podium. Lucas Engstler (Lamborghini Huracan Evo GT3- Grasser Racing Team) and Thomas Preining Thomas Preining (Porsche 911 GT3 R 992- Manthey EMA) return blow for blow. The battle between the three men is absolutely superb and will last almost the entire first stint (unfortunately Engstler retires due to mechanical problems)
Van der Linde and Engel in reconquest mode
Bortolotti's two pursuers in the championship started in 11th place (van der Linde) and 13th (Engel). They both made a good comeback. The aim was to stay in contact with Bortolotti from a points of view. By reaching the finish in 5th place and 8th position, the Audi driver and Mercedes both kept their title chances alive at Hockenheim at the end of October. They were especially lucky that the other drivers came to cause trouble in the race of the factory Lamborghini.
Although Bortolotti was in the lead before the pit stops, his domination was never insolent. There was never more than a two-second gap between Bortolotti and his pursuers. When the refueling window opened, Bortolotti was leading ahead of Rast followed by Preining, van der Linde was then 5th! The Lamborghini N°92 was the first leading car to stop while Rast and Preining took advantage of the opportunity to extend their stint. In total, there were 6 drivers remaining on the track: Ayhancan Guven, Marco Wittmann, Sheldon van der Linde and Maro Engel. When all these drivers made their pit stops, Bortolotti fell to 6th place in the standings. After being buffeted, the Italian nevertheless managed to make up two positions before the finish flag.
René Rast takes his 8th success in DTM, he is ahead of Thomas Preining and Arjun Maini. In the DTM general classification, Bortolotti maintains the advantage at the top with a 15-point lead over Kelvin Van der Linde and 20 over Maro Engel. The final at the end of October will be decisive. Bortolotti will suffer since he will be carrying the 20kg of ballast for his great Austrian performanceThere is no doubt that you will not want to miss this grand finale at the end of which a new champion will be crowned, none of the three contenders having experienced this happiness before. See you on October 18-19 and 20 on the Hockenheim Ring circuit.
