The night of the 24 Spa 2018 Hours was marked by two terrible accidents at the Raidillon de l'Eau, involving on one side Stéphane Ortelli (Lexus RC F GT3 n°114 – Emil Frey Racing), and on the other the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 of Jürgen Krebs and the Bentley Continental GT3 of Andy Meyrick.
All were taken to hospital for further examinations, fractures having been detected in Krebs and Meyrick. On the side of Stéphane Ortelli, the former winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Spa is recovering well from the impressive head-on collision and the minor injuries suffered, while Emil Frey Racing sheds some light on its driver's accident.
It is a mechanical failure, which Emil Frey Racing is still investigating, which is the cause of Ortelli's exit, as the Lorenz Frey structure clarified this Monday, a driver error being excluded. The possibility that this break was caused by contact in the peloton earlier in the race remains under consideration.
