Ford presents its 2019 Mustang

Engaged in the Cup Series for more than ten years, the Fusion will give up its place in the premier series of events Nascar to the Mustang starting at the 500 Daytona 2019 next February. Ford unveiled the official contours of its new body yesterday at its headquarters in Dearborn, near Detroit (Michigan).

As a symbol, it is Tony Stewart, now retired from full-time piloting and Stewart's boss-Haas Racing, who drove the car from the Flat Rock factory to take it in front of all the teams gathered at the brand's premises with the blue oval.

If the Mustang is already part of the history of Nascar, at the level of the Xfinity Series, this will indeed be the first time that this model will see its racing version entered in the Cup Series.

Both the teams defending the interests of Ford, Team Penske, Stewart-Haas to name only the most important, and the engineers from Ford Performance, participated in the creation of this car.

« Our Ford Performance teams have worked hard with the Ford design team to create a Mustang that will be competitive on the track while remaining true to its proud heritage, comments Mark Rusbrook, general manager Ford Performance Motorsports. We look forward to seeing her win Cup Series races in 2019.”

Ford's last victory in the Manufacturers' standings at the highest level of Nascar, however, dates back to 2002, with Kurt Busch remaining the last to bring a Drivers' title to Dearborn in 2004 via Roush Racing.

Note that Ford recently crossed the milestone of 10 million Mustangs produced since the launch of the first model in 1964.
