The GT Tour 2016 edition will include several major new features for competitors. In addition to the arrival of the LM P3 category, and the resulting creation of a French Proto Championship, the calendar for the next season will also bring its share of surprises. The first is obviously the arrival of Morocco (May 6-8), event reserved for GTs and Protos. The round will be contested on the urban track of Marrakech, a city which already hosts the WTCC.
The season will begin at Nogaro in the Gers, who will make his return after a year of absence. The Easter Cups will return to a major championship from March 27, the Blancpain GT Series not going to the Paul Armagnac track in 2016.
After the Moroccan escapade, Lédenon (Gard) will be the scene of the third event from June 3 to 5, before a return to Magny-Cours (Nièvre) from July 8 to 10, which takes the place of Val de Vienne, which is largely absent in 2016. Le Mans (Sarthe) will be visited at the start of the school year from September 9 to 11 before the second event outside France, which will be organized on the route ofImola in Italy (September 30-October 2).
The final will traditionally take place at Paul-Ricard in Var on the last weekend of October. “We have achieved a balanced and quality program, with popular and renowned circuits. This calendar goes well with the other European championships and this was one of the teams' wishes. » admits Hugues de Chaunac, president of Oreca, promoter of the GT Tour.
The championship should not encounter a clash of dates with the other major European championships to allow teams to progress on several tables, in particular those having acquired LM P3 prototypes.
