Coronavirus: SRO ready to shake up its calendars

Like other championship organizers, SRO Motorsports Group is impacted by the spread of the coronavirus around the world.

The organizer of the GT3 championships indicated that the GT World Challenge Asia events were all maintained to date, with the first round scheduled for Sepang (Malaysia) on the weekend of March 29.

The discipline nevertheless plans to travel to countries exposed to the virus with Thailand, Japan and China on the Shanghai circuit with two meetings scheduled to end the season in September and October. SRO unsurprisingly indicated that it was prepared to modify the program if necessary.

The GT World Challenge Europe is also likely to be modified, with the season opener scheduled for the weekend of April 19 in Monza in a region where the epidemic has recently spread. SRO is preparing for an alternative solution if the event cannot be contested by hosting the field ofEndurance Cup as part of the Sprint Cup meeting which will be held in Barcelona (Spain) on October 9 and 11. The Sprint Cup field would instead travel to Imola (Italy) on the weekend of November 1st.

SRO also announced that the GT Sports Club field made up of GT2s would perform as part of the GT World Challenge Europe meetings. The organizer had considered producing this series in specific meetings for a while.

In a difficult context, SRO indicates that more than a hundred races are planned to be contested under its leadership in 2020.
