The GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup always has surprises in store. Leading since the start of Race 2 at Brands Hatch (Great Britain), Raffaele Marciello and Timur Bogulavskiy (Mercedes) had done the hardest part to finally open their success counter in 2021 this Sunday, August 29.
Unfortunately, that meant a puncture to the right front wheel on the very last lap! Broken rim, the Mercedes-AMG of the French team AKKA-ASP pitifully reached the finish line in sixth place.
Second and behind the leaders for a good quarter of an hour, Luca Stolz didn't ask for much and managed to overtake his Russian rival to offer the second success of the year to him and his teammate Maro Engel (Toksport WRT ).
But the other crew in heaven this afternoon is found in the Team WRT clan. The Belgians Dries Vanthoor and Charles Weerts, extremely consistent this season, pocketed the Sprint Cup coronation even before the final scheduled for Valencia (Spain, September 25-26) thanks to their second place!
“I don’t know what to say, I’m moved, said Dries Vanthoor, now double title holder. VSharles is a great guy, I'm happy to win with him. He did a very good job. I am very proud to be part of this team, which delivers a perfect car. We are going to party ! »
Here's how they finished.
