James Baldwin: “Learn as much as possible”

Before this opportunity with Jenson Team Rocket RJN, what was your background?

I had to get an international C racing license and you have to compete in twelve different races nationally. Luckily I already had four from doing Formula Ford about four years ago, so in my case I only needed eight more.

I did a few races in a Citroën C1 at Brands Hatch, I did a few races in a GT4 Nissan run by Jenson Team Rocket RJN, the team I'm with now, at Brands Hatch too, and then at Anglesey.

Is it important to continue with Bob Neville's team?

I'm obviously still learning, even though they've been there for years. It's a good, very experienced team. They know how to work with players because they have worked with the GT Academy drivers and accompanied them throughout their development and officiated with them in many races.

What is the biggest change to expect with the GT3?

In terms of straight line speed it's going to make a big difference, but I think after a few laps I'll be used to it. I've never had a car with a lot of downforce like that before.

The brakes are probably the most complicated thing, it's the most physical thing to do in the car. I sat in the car at the shop last week and they had a brake sensor that shows you what 100% is: I could barely reach it and I was well into pressing the brake. pedal.

Are you ready for your first 24 hour race in the real world?

Not yet ! If I competed now, it probably wouldn't go as well. But that's the beauty of riding and building with a few shorter races. The nature of the program is to jump in the deep end, so I'm ready for that element.

I've done 24 hour races in the past, but they were XNUMX hour races. karting, so you can't really compare them. You still have to be awake for a long time, get in the car, run while you are tired.

What are your goals for this year?

Obviously, I want to do my best, maximize my potential and learn as much as possible. But, I really want to win the Pro-Am championship with Jenson Team Rocket RJN. This is the main goal. The second is to get noticed to really ensure that I stay in this sport for several seasons.
