WRT wins again in race 3 at Misano

WRT laughing and Tech 1 crying: nothing new under the Misano sun. Dries Vanthoor and Charles Weerts won their second race of the weekend on Sunday, out of three in total in this round of the GT World Challenge Europe sprint cup.

This time, no need for a safety car. Team WRT built the victory on its own, thanks to a quick refueling at mid-race which allowed them to gain two places. The reputation of Belgian mechanics in the field is not usurped.

Everything was decided in the pits since the Tech 1 Racing Lexus RCF, then quietly in the lead, completely missed its stop and lost more than ten seconds, ending up eighth. This mishap, entirely the responsibility of the team, still allowed Aurélien Panis and Thomas Neubauer to remain at the head of the Silver category, the main objective.

But this weekend, the team is cursed, in GT at least. And the curse struck again. While closely following the fight between Kelvin Van der Linde (Team WRT Audi) and Nelson Panciatici (CMR Bentley), the Bentley lost the rear and hit the Lexus. Both cars ended up in the barriers. Zero points for Tech 1. Again.

At the front, the Attempto Racing Audi driven by Tommaso Mosca and Mattia Drudi also lost time in the pits. On the track, however, the race was rather calm in the leading positions. Christopher Haase and Arthur Rougier finished second in the Saintéloc Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 and the duo Mattia Drudi and Tommaso Mosca completed the podium and the Audi hat-trick.

Behind, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo from Haupt Racing once again performed in fourth position, without making a splash. Followed by the second Team WRT car driven by Kelvin Van der Linde and Ryuishiro Tomita, then the Mercedes AKKA-Asp of Raffaele Marciello and Timur Boguslavskiy.

In Silver, victory went to the Bentley of the CMR team driven by Hugo Chevalier and Pierre-Alexandre Jean. In Pro-Am, it’s Ferrari 488 GT3 of Sky Tempesta Racing in the hands of Eddie Cheever and Chris Froggatt who wins once again.
