Huff on pole, Farfus placed

The streets of the former Portuguese province were once again full of traps this Friday, even for the best in the WTCC. After a first phase of qualifying which saw the best advance to Q2, the second phase of the session was very surprising. Before the first times are signed, several drivers make mistakes, and not the least.

Yvan Muller, reigning world champion, hit the tracks after five minutes of the session, dragging Gabriele Tarquini and Alain Menu in his wake. While nothing has been done, it is now certain that the first two in the WTCC general classification will not take pole.

After this twist of fate, the BMW drivers are in a strong position. Augusto Farfus, who still has a chance of winning the world title, is protected by his teammates and goes for the best time (2:33:033), while Tiago Monteiro (Seat) is hampered in his fast lap by the ?armada BMW. But the surprise comes from Robert Huff (Chevrolet), who shows that the Cruze is to its advantage on the streets of Macau (2'32"141). Andy Priaulx (BMW) closed to three tenths of Huff and, at the same time, pushed Farfus back to third position on the grid.

Behind these three drivers, we find Jordi Gené (Seat), Tiago Monteiro (Seat) and Jörg Müller (BMW) then the drivers injured at the start of the session. The two races, contested on Sunday, will therefore be full of surprises, since Farfus, Tarquini and Muller are still in the fight to win the world crown.
