Hyundai unveils the Veloster N ETCR

Its first appearance had been more than fleeting, in the form a teaser from Hyundai Motorsport earlier this summer, the Korean brand announced the upcoming presentation of an electric racing model.

In view of the presentation video, a car around the Tourism category was highly possible, the ECTR championship still being expected in the coming months.

These two features are a first for Hyundai engineers, more accustomed to the internal combustion engines and four-wheel drive of the i20 Coupe. WRC, or to the tractions of the WTCR / TCR series.

The first runs took place last August, with real tests expected in the coming days. “We have been anticipating this moment for some time and are excited to begin this exciting new chapter for our company, says Thomas Schemera, head of the product division.

Through our Customer Racing department, we have spent many years honing our skills in touring car racing, resulting in two packages capable of competing for championships around the world.

ETCR is the natural next step in our journey and fits perfectly with Hyundai's overall strategy for electric vehicle production. We have a detailed testing program for the Veloster N ETCR, supported by a team of fully trained engineers at Hyundai Motorsport. »

SEAT, via its Cupra division, is the other brand already involved in TCR to have embraced the electric side of the category, Mattias Ekström having recently been called in for reinforcement in the 100% electric program of the Spanish firm.
