Normally, an announcement regarding the American team MDK Motorsports would have been the subject of a brief. But when it involves a pilot Formula 1 active as part of the Intercontinental GT Challenge (IGTC) this is a game changer! Kevin Magnussen will participate in the 12 Hours of the Gulf with his father, Jan Magnussen.

The two Danes will be accompanied by the owner of the stable and winner of the Porsche Carrera Cup North America in the Amateur category, Mark Kvamme. He has already won the race held on the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi in Am in January 2022.

The Italian structure AF Corse will provide technical support for this participation in the final of the 2022 IGTC season, scheduled for December 9.

For the current pilot Haas in Formula 1, this will be his first participation in a GT3 in Endurance. “Mark (Clumsy) and I met during the Miami Grand Prix weekend (in March 2022) and the idea of running together in Abu Dhabi came up. We called my dad, and the team was ready.

MDK Motorsports is run by professional and passionate people, and I enjoy working with them. I can't wait to see what we can achieve together. Of course, I'm also extremely grateful to have another chance to drive with my dad and hopefully try to win a race. »

Jan Magnussen, removed from the Corvette Racing program after a 15-year lease in Endurance, is enjoying this father-son reunion on the circuit. “I can’t think of a better way to end the season!” A huge thank you to MDK Motorsports for putting this program together and putting Kevin and I in the same car again. I had the chance to drive the Ferrari 488 GTE to 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2020, and it's a very enjoyable race car. Combine that with an experienced team and three drivers who really want to compete, and let's see what we can do. I'm sure it'll be fun! »
