Pole position for the Bathurst 12 Hours went to Maro Engel (Mercedes-AMG n°999), and with style! The German broke his own lap record at the Mount Panorama circuit to become the first driver to go under 2'01"0. The representative of the GruppeM team set a fantastic time of 2'00″882, two tenths better than his previous mark. He thus won his second Allan Simonsen Trophy, which rewards the pole sitter at the Bathurst 12 Hours.

" It's incredible, declared a delighted Maro Engel.I do not know what to say anymore. The level of grip this weekend was incredible. A big, big thank you to the team, to the guys [his co-drivers Raffaele Marciello and Mikael Grenier] for trusting me and to the team for this incredible car, it was a pleasure. »

Maro Engel beat Broc Feeney (Mercedes-AMG n°888) and Matt Campbell (Porsche No. 912). Jules Gounon, winner of last year's Bathurst 12 Hours, set the 4th fastest time aboard the #75 SunEnergy1 Mercedes-AMG. The #46 BMW of Team WRT and Valentino Rossi will start from 8th place.

The start of the Bathurst 12 Hours will be given on Sunday at 5:45 a.m. local time (Saturday at 19:45 p.m. French time).
