Jaxon Evans champion of Carrera Cup France

Four drivers in seven points. The gaps in the championship before the last race of the season Porsche Carrera Cup France on Sunday were tiny. Jaxon Evans (Lechner Racing), Florian Latorre (CLRT), Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer (Lechner Racing) and Ayhancan Güven (Martinet by Alméras) could hope for the title and the race promised to be epic with significant tire degradation in Barcelona.

But Richard Wagner ruined everything. The Austrian, dropped from the championship, decided to go into kamikaze mode at the start. The Lechner Racing driver came to the apex at the first corner but braked far too late and locked his tires.

The maneuver caused him to hit Florian Latorre from behind, who in turn hit Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer. After a turn, the two Frenchmen gave up and said goodbye to their title chances. Yet another frustration for Latorre, who had to suffer a drive-through on Saturday and a three-place penalty on the grid this Sunday, which sent him to the middle of the pack.

In addition to this unfortunate outcome, the pileup led to a long safety car, which left only ten minutes of racing. A formality for Jaxon Evans.

Starting second, the 24-year-old Porsche junior driver had an excellent start to beat pole-sitter Ayancan Güven.

In ten minutes he only had to control his Turkish opponent to achieve a second success this weekend. The New Zealander had already won race 1 on Saturday to everyone's surprise by moving up from 7th to 1st place. It was his first victory of the season...

Evans claims the championship title in his first year with Lechner Racing. Güven, for his part, ends his series of two titles in the Porsche Carrera Cup France with a second place in the final.
