Jimmie Johnson will no longer drive full-time in 2021

It will be a monument to the history of Nascar who will begin a farewell lap at Nascar at the Daytona 500 next February. At 44 years old, and after a career that saw him win the Cup Series title seven times (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2016), Jimmie Johnson confirmed today that 2020 will be his final full campaign in the series.

The American made the information official in a video posted on social networks this Wednesday evening. “I am so grateful for these 18 incredible years of competing, indicates the driver Hendrick Motorsports, the team where he has played his entire career in the Cup Series, which began in 2001 in Charlotte.

This sport has been good for me and allowed me to do something I truly love. I pursued a dream and accomplished more than I thought. I'm looking forward to the next season, and celebrating what will be my last full year in the Nascar Cup.

I know what the team is capable of and I hope 2020 will be one of the best years. »

Since his arrival at the top of Nascar in 2001, Jimmie Johnson has accumulated, in addition to his titles, 83 victories, 36 poles, including two successes at the Daytona 500 in 2006 and 2013 and four victories at the Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis and at the Coca-Cola 600 from Charlotte.

Only 18th in the standings this season, Johnson has not won in the Cup Series since Dover in 2017.
