Joey Logano first qualifier for Phoenix final

Joey Logano erected a real wall last night in Kansas to seek victory and qualification to try to aim for the 2020 title in Phoenix (Arizona) on November 8.

Restarting in the lead during the last stop around forty laps from the finish after contact with the wall of Tyler Reddick which caused a final neutralization and a group return to the pitlane, Logano was able to benefit from the superb work of the team in charge of the No. 22 Ford Mustang within Team Penske to take advantage of his position on the track.

Then begins a real game of cat and mouse between the leader and Kevin Harvick (Stewart-Haas Racing – Ford), the most energetic with 85 laps led, but who came up against perfect resistance from Logano, the latter using the traffic to his advantage.

“The pit stops put us in position and allowed us to take the lead, analyzes the winner, who will play his fourth final after 2014, 2016 and 2018. Harvick was fast, very fast, especially on the straights and I thought if I could hold him off for the first 15 laps I had a chance.

The dirty air was best for us and as we had traffic I was able to open up a gap. »

A gap sufficient to keep the Stewart-Haas Racing resident at bay, the latter only failing by three tenths, but insufficient to deprive Logano of a third victory in 2020, the first for the 2018 champion of the discipline since the resumed after the forced break due to the coronavirus.

Alex Bowman (Hendrick Motorsports – Chevrolet), Brad Keselowski (Team Penske) et Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing – Toyota) complete the top 5.
