Kahne puts himself back in the race for the chase

“Unreal. I can not believe it ! ". The words that come out of Kasey Kahne's mouth after the Sonoma Sprint Cup race show how beautiful victory feels. The Dodge driver thus brought the first victory for Richard Petty's team since John Andretti in 1999. Above all, Kasey Kahne won his first success of the season which allows him to put himself back in the race for the chase. With only three points behind 12th, he still has every chance of being among the qualifiers at the end of the year.

During the Sonoma road race, Kahne took command on lap 80 and never let go. He was able to resist the pressure from Tony Stewart during the four restarts, the last after the race was neutralized following Scott Speed's accident on the 108th lap.

Behind the two men, Marcos Ambrose made a fantastic comeback after starting at the back of the grid following an engine change. Third, he achieved the best result of his career in the Sprint Cup. Finally, Jimmie Johnson, the three-time defending champion, took fourth place ahead of Denny Hamlin. Juan Montoya, AJ Allmendinger, Clint Bowyer, Jeff Gordon and Elliott Sadler round out the top 10.
