Slowly but surely, the Nascar prepares for his transition. A week after the end of the 2020 Cup Series, Kurt Busch and Martin Truex Jr. returned to North Carolina and the Charlotte oval for two days of testing.

On the menu ? The test of the Next Gen car, the seventh generation which will be used by the entire peloton from 2022. This Monday, the two men were therefore able to conduct tests on board said machine still at the prototype stage, the Prototype 3 of his name.

« It was a fun, exciting and interesting day. I felt like I was living my first day at school because the car is so different from the current ones. », smiles Kurt Busch, admiring the great novelty of this Next Gen, the sequential gearbox.

« I love shifting gears. The car accelerates quickly, it brakes faster, it corners more quickly, it is agile ».

The goal of this first day of testing on the road circuit at the Charlotte oval was to try different combinations of Goodyear tires in order to find the right settings for 2022.

Martin Truex Jr. was “ pleasantly surprised » by the reaction of the Next Gen. “ She does everything a little better. It is easier to drive on the road circuit. It runs very well ».

A second day of testing is planned for this Wednesday, this time on the Charlotte oval. Kurt Busch and Martin Truex Jr. will be there again.
