The FIA World Council has announced several changes to the WTCC, whether at the level of the peloton or the calendar.

WTCC 2 category abandoned and calendar revised

The FIA has confirmed the abandonment of the WTCC 2 category initially planned for the 2017 season. This category initially announced during the World Council on November 30, 2016, in order to “to allow the Touring Car Commission and the Promoter to concentrate entirely on the main category (TC1) in 2017”, according to the press release published at the end of the World Council which was held this Thursday, March 9 in Geneva (Switzerland).

The calendar will also change. As expected, the Chinese round was moved to the Ningbo circuit, subject to circuit approval, to replace the Shanghai event scheduled for the weekend of May 15. The Argentine meeting planned at Termas de Rio Hondo has been brought forward to July 16.
