34 GT3s (a record) will be at the start of the first round of the 2020 Intercontinental GT Challenge, on February 2 on the Mount Panorama track, for the Bathurst 12 Hours.
The main brands entered last year in the series promoted by SRO Motorsports will be back, headlined by Porsche Motorsport. The German firm, winner twelve months ago with the old version of the 911 GT3 R, operated by Earl Bamber Motorsports and entrusted to the trio Dirk Werner – Matt Campbell – Dennis Olsen, will this time release the 2019 version of its GT3.
Absolute Racing, with the crews Patrick Pilet – Mathieu Jaminet – Matt Campbell and Dirk Werner – Thomas Preining – Matteo Cairoli, will be the leading team from Weissach with EBM defending its crown, with a crew that remains to be defined.
One of the big news will be the arrival of FFF Racing on behalf of Lamborghini Squadra Corse, with a Huracan GT3 Evo. We could find at the wheel the boss-driver Andrea Caldarelli and Marco Mapelli, the two heroes of the Blancpain GT Series in 2019.
La McLaren 720S GT3 will debut on Mount Panorama as part of theIGTC, with a Pro car for the AF Engineering Pty team.
Mercedes-AMG will once again be represented by GruppeM Racing, Craft-Bamboo Racing and Triple Eight Engineering. We can logically expect to see the regulars Raffaele Marciello and other Maxi Buhk within the brand with the star.
At Audi Sport, Team Valvoline had already formalized the presence of three R8 LMS GT3 Evos, including one with Garth Tander. No change at Bentley, where the Team M-Sport will be in charge of operating the Continental GT3s.
One of the cars that is sure to get a lot of attention would have to be theAston Martin Vantage GT3 – R-Motorsport in Castrol colors, driven by Rick Kelly, Supercars figure, assisted by the legend of IndyCar Series Scott Dixon and Jake Dennis, 2nd at Bathurst in 2019. The Swiss team will also field a second car.
Honda with an NSX GT3 Evo for JAS / Team Motul, Nissan, with the return of a GT-R Nismo GT3 from KCMG, BMW with Walkenhorst Motorsport (two M6 GT3s) and Ferrari (HubAuto Corsa) will also be there.
In Pro-Am, Team SunEnergy1 (Mercedes) of Kenny Habul and Earl Bamber Motorsport (Porsche) will be ones to watch, as will the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 – Garage 59 and the McLaren 720S GT3 – AF Engineering Pty in the Silver category.
Note that the organizers of the Bathurst 12 Hours have confirmed this morning that the test will take place, despite the terrible fires that have ravaged the island for several months.
