Nascar reforms its points and qualifications

In order to reward regularity without penalizing risk-taking to glean victories, the leaders of the Nascar resulted in a clever mix of changes. The victory at 190 points is over, the cursor is now lowered to less than 50 units.

Thus, the first in a race will collect 43 points, the second 42, the third 41 and each subsequent place will earn one point less. Winning the race will be rewarded with a bonus of three points; the fact of having led at least one lap will provide a point; the driver who has led the most laps will earn an additional point. Thus, the winner will be able to collect a maximum of 48 points, a minimum of 47; the second a maximum of 44, a minimum of 42. Consistency is thus rewarded, the gap being reduced between the drivers finishing in the first places in a race.

Despite everything, the victory bonus is not forgotten. The race for qualification will still be played out over 26 races, in order to participate in the Chase: ten final races allowing the best to compete for the title of champion. At the end of these 26 races, the ten drivers with the highest points will qualify for the Chase. Everyone will then receive an allocation of points according to their number of victories.

However, twelve drivers will be qualified to compete for the title. In addition to the ten best ranked, two drivers from the Top 20 and having won the most times will be included in the Chase. In the event of a tie in victories between several drivers, the number of points will be taken into account. These two drivers will join the first ten chosen and will compete in the title race.

In addition, changes also take place during the weekends. The starting order during qualifying will be determined based on free practice. The classification of these free practices will also be used to establish the starting grid when qualifying is canceled due to rain.
