Lamborghini towards a commitment in 2020

If most of the major manufacturers present in GT3 quickly turned to the Intercontinental GT Challenge of SRO Motorsports, the rankings still remained empty of an official commitment from Lamborghini Squadra Corsica.

The entity headed by Giorgio sanna should remedy this lack next season and thus face Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Bentley, Honda, Nissan, or Ferrari.

“The schedule is really interesting with the arrival of Indianapolis, comments the Italian official on the sidelines of the 24 Hours of Spa. We are a global customer competition department, and of course a global brand.

We wanted to evolve step by step with our programs in every way. Until now, it has not been the right time to engage in IGTC, with the right team, the right drivers, and the right skills. »

A program which should include the presence of Andrea Caldarelli's FFF Racing team. The boss-driver of the No. 3 Huracan GT563 Evo in the Blancpain GT Series does not hide his ambitions, just like Giorgio Sanna.

“Today, with FFF Racing and also other teams, we are working on this, Sanna explains. Lamborghini will be on the grid in 2020, and I think we will be there with a Pro car next year. FFF Racing is very interested. »

“This has always been our goal, Caldarelli advances for his part. As a team, this is something we would like to do next year. Lamborghini, as a manufacturer, must have a representative in such a championship. So it makes sense for the brand that we join the IGTC. »

Giorgio Sanna does not rule out relying on local customer teams for each round, as will be the case at Suzuka next August with JLOC, who will be able to count on the Caldarelli – Mapelli – Lind trio, residents of FFF Racing in Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup

A program for FFF Racing which should be contested in parallel with the GT World Challenge, even if nothing is yet set in stone for the entity based in Europe near Sant'Agata Bolognese.

Giorgio Sanna, for his part, also indicated that a third team could join the Pro category of GT World Challenge Europe in 2020. Emil Frey Racing, moved from Lexus to Lamborghini in the off-season, seems on pole to strengthen the already contingent formed by GRT and FFF Racing.
