The fireproof suits are brightly coloured and speak volumes about their experience. So does their way of walking around the pits. Even at the end of the season, the Lamera Cup continues to attract motorsport novices, who are delighted to get their adrenaline fix from a full-on fifth gear and late braking.
This is the case of Julien and Paul Delmas. Two brothers who are almost twins, even if they are separated by two years (the eldest is 27 years old) and a few centimeters.
«We have always loved motor sports ", says Paul, the youngest. "Karting indoors and outdoors, motocross. We often had great times together. But competing in a car race, never until this weekend. "
It was Laurent Knibbe, owner of the Lamera 78, who had the good idea of inviting the Delmas Brothers to an initiation day on the Lurcy Levis circuit.
“We know each other through work. Laurent is a dairy supplier, we are restaurateurs in Paris. We immediately loved driving this very healthy car,” says Julien. “What a blast! Right away, we said to ourselves that we would try this great adventure one day or another.”
A year of patience
These young business leaders – on each sleeve of their overalls are the names of the Parisian establishments they manage – have not put the cart before the horse.
« The Lamera Cup is something you have to earn ", smiles Julien. " We put money aside for a year to experience this intense moment. »
« I can assure you that even at Magny-Cours, we are not totally disconnected from work. ", explains the cadet. " I spend more time on the phone, sorting out problems with the staff than in front of the screen displaying the rankings. But once in the car, I only think about driving as best I can. I'm not really surprised by the pace of the others. On the other hand, I am disappointed with mine " he laughs. However, this trio of gentlemen (Laurent Knibbe is the only one to have tasted the Lamera during the 26 Hours of Portimao) did better than hold their own during the four-hour race this Saturday.
« We made some errors of distraction due to fatigue. ", Julien analyzed as he came down from the podium. " Like many, we weren't showing off when the rain was soaking the asphalt, but the result is there: we finished 3rd in the gentlemen's category with a nice 16th place out of 25 classified crews. »
« It's just amazing ", Paul concludes. " I just want to get back in the car.. "
Delmas Jr.'s wish has come true. This Sunday, Paul, Julien and their buddy Laurent will be able to indulge their passion for the Lamera Cup in the seven-hour race.
