The Iron Dames withdraw from the 24 Hours of Spa

Victorious in the Gold Cup at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in 2022, the Iron Dames will not be there in 2024. Expected at the Belgian classic with the usual crew formed by the trio Rahel Frey, Michelle Gatting, Sarah Bovy and a fourth driver which had not yet been confirmed, the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 will not start this year.

The Italian team announced its package this Tuesday morning on its social networks. This withdrawal follows the violent exit from the track of Sarah Bovy during the round ofIMSA of the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen, which took place on Sunday.

« It is with heavy hearts that we are sad to announce the withdrawal of the Iron Dames from the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps this week, indicates the Iron Dames press release.

After an incident at Watkins Glen last weekend, Sarah was taken to hospital for the necessary tests and she is fine, which is the most important thing, but we have decided to withdraw from the race to give her the time to recover.

We would like to thank all the stewards and medical staff for their support this week, and of course, thank you to all the fans for their well wishes. Your support is truly valuable. »

The team could have called on Célia Martin or Karen Gaillard to replace Sarah Bovy, but the two women entered in Michelin Le Mans Cup do not have the experience of the demanding Spa route. It was tricky for the Iron Dames to launch them with only this week's trials as preparation. In these conditions, the transalpine team preferred to withdraw.

With the withdrawal of the Iron Dames, 66 cars are now expected at Spa-Francorchamps this weekend for the Belgian classic, the start of which will be given by Jacky Ickx.
