Top of the podium after Race 1 of the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup at the Nürburgring (Germany) on Saturday, Mirko Bortolotti and Christian Engelhart (Lamborghini) were demoted to 13th place in the evening.
The so called cold shower
We got a 30 second time penalty post race and lost the win Unfortunately the seatbelt wasn't fully over Christian's HANS device, which leaned to a penalty.… https://t.co/ER0bjJT4My— Mirko Bortolotti (@M_Bortolotti) September 15, 2018
Race management noticed a problem with a misplaced harness on the German driver's Hans system and subsequently imposed a 30-second penalty.
This penalty has three consequences for the general classification. First of all, Alex Riberas and Christopher Mies (Audi) inherit the victory and regain some air at the top of the Drivers' standings. Indeed, Raffaele Marciello and Michael Meadows (Mercedes) are now nine points behind.
Then, Bortolotti-Engelhart are mathematically excluded from the fight for the title, because of this zero point. Finally, the Sprint Cup Series Teams title is awarded to Team WRT. The Belgian team retains its crown for the sixth consecutive year!
