Next Gen cars presented

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, Ford Mustang and Toyota TRD Camry. Here are the names of future cars meeting the Next Gen regulations desired by the Nascar starting with the 2022 season.

After several test sessions following the development started by Nascar in 2018, the three manufacturers and American officials unveiled this Wednesday these cars intended to revive the “Stock” side, with a desired appearance closer to production .

Chassis-wise, the cars retain the tubular structure, with new front and rear bumpers. The hull, now symmetrical, sees the arrival of composite materials, brands being able to better integrate the design of road cars, and the aero aspect has been worked on with the arrival of a rear diffuser to reduce the famous "dirty air ".

The rear suspension also becomes independent and the track bar disappears. Another major change is the arrival of 18″ wheels which will feature a single central nut and will be fitted with wider tires. The braking system is also improved.

Mechanically, the V8 engine will remain unchanged, but the future is prepared with the possibility of including a hybrid unit in the future. A new five-speed sequential gearbox is included in a new transaxle assembly.

“What Ford has done here with this Mustang, it would be a lie to say it’s not superb, underlines Joey Logano, resident of Team Penske. She looks aggressive. I think any Mustang fan, Ford fan, would absolutely approve of what we're bringing to the track. I can't wait to drive these cars. It's going to be awesome. »

Next Gen cars are scheduled to debut at Daytona in February 2022.
