Maro Engel on pole for race 2 at Magny-Cours

With Dries Vanthoor, Maro Engel, Christopher Haase, Jules Gounon and Raffaele Marciello at the start of this second qualifying of the weekend, the hunt for the clock promised to be lively this Sunday morning at Magny-Cours to determine the starting grid for the second Nivernaise race of the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup.

Si Dries Vanthoor (Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo n°32 – Team WRT) and Raffaele Marciello (Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo n°88 – AKKA-ASP) launched the first banderillas, Ben Barnicoat (McLaren 720S GT3 n°38 – Jota) takes the advantage 12′ from the end in 1’35″894, first time under 1’36” per lap.

“Lello” Marciello thought he would take pole in the last two minutes, but the Italian's time was ultimately canceled for failure to respect the track limits, leaving the way clear for Maro Engel who comes to top everyone's hair with the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo n°6 – Toksport WRT in 1'35″627, just before the red flag following the spin by Stéphane Richelmi (Bentley Continental GT3 n°108 – CMR) at the exit of the last chicane.

Engel is ahead of Albert Costa (Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo n°163 – Emil Frey Racing) by 253 thousandths and Ben Barnicoat by 267 thousandths. Dries Vanthoor places his Audi n°32 at 0″358 just in front of the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo n°14 – Emil Frey Racing of Alex Fontana, best time in Silver Cup, ahead of Pierre-Alexandre Jean (Bentley Continental GT3 n°107 – CMR).

In Pro-Am, Jonny Adam, aligned with theAston Martin Vantage GT3 n°188 – Garage 59 gets the best time. The Sunday Sprint Cup race will start at 14:40 p.m. and can be followed live on video on our website.
