Marrakech replaced by the Salzburgring

The absence of Mehdi Bennani from the 2020 WTCR season has unexpected consequences on the calendar. Series promoter Eurosport Events canceled the Marrakech round on the Moulay el Hassan circuit which had been present for a decade (since the WTCC era). It will therefore be the Hungaroring in Budapest (Hungary) which will launch the season on the weekend of April 26.

“Mehdi Bennani, the leading driver in Morocco, no longer being involved in WTCR, it was no longer possible to offer a quality meeting as we have done until now without his participation, admits the director of Eurosport Events François Ribeiro. Marrakech was a unique place to launch the season with such a festive and warm atmosphere… Eurosport maintains close relations with the Ministry of Sports of Morocco…”

If Morocco could therefore one day return to the WTCR, it is the Salzurburgring circuit which will take its place this year for the weekend of July 26. The 4,241km Austrian track has already hosted the WTCC and the ETCC in the past.
