Martin Truex Jr takes pole in Texas

Martin Truex Jr (Michael Waltrip Racing) takes pole at Texas Motor Speedway after taking the lead over the two Roush Fenway Racing drivers Matt Kenseth and Greg Biffle. Mark Martin (Michael Waltrip Racing) took fourth position ahead of Kasey Kahne (Hendrick Motorsports), still lacking results since the start of the season. Ryan Newman (Stewart-Haas Racing), the last winner at Martinsville, dreams of doing as well by starting from sixth place ahead of Marcos Ambrose (Richard Petty Motorsports) and Brad Keselowski (Penske Racing). Jamie McMurray (Earnhardt Ganassi Rcaing) and Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports) complete the top ten.

Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano took 13th and 14th place respectively on the starting grid, but their teammate Kyle Busch of Joe Gibbs Racing appeared further behind with the 17th time of the session just ahead of Clint Bowyer (Michael Waltrip Racing). Carl Edwards (Roush Fenway Racing) will only start from 20th. The disappointment is even greater for Juan-Pablo Montoya (Earnhardt Ganassi Racing), only 25th, and Tony Stewart (Stewart-Haas Racing), who only occupies 29th position.
