Mattias Ekström becomes ambassador and Cupra e-Racer driver

Cupra was the first to set foot in electric touring cars for competition, via its Cupra e-racer. It remained to find a cutting-edge pilot who could bring all his experience to the development of this technology.

Seat and its Cupra division have finally reached an agreement with Mattias Ekstrom, long-time Audi Sport driver in DTM then in World RX (with two titles in German touring and one in the World RX Championship Rallycross).

The Swede thus remains in the large family of the Volkswagen group (Seat having been integrated into VW since the 90s). He will be in charge of working around this e-Racer and other electric racing cars to come.

“Becoming a member of Cupra is the natural next step for me, explains Ekström. After a career dedicated to the world of racing where I had explored all combustion engine formats, I wanted to move into electric racing with CUPRA, which has been a pioneer in this segment since its creation. »

La Cupra e-Racer sera l’une des vedettes du salon de Francfort en septembre, où Hyundai devrait également dévoiler his vision of the TCR in electric version. A championship should also see the light of day in 2020.
