Mercedes-AMG opens the GT World Challenge winners list

There were only two of them at the start for this first edition of the GT World Challenge overall, and it is Mercedes-AMG who emerged victorious from his duel against Ferrari.

The German manufacturer officially sealed its title for the best customer program in the three GT World Challenge Europe, Asia and America championships at the end of the finale in Las Vegas (Nevada) last weekend.

For the record, this challenge offered points to four drivers nominated by continent and by brand, with each victory in a category bringing back points, multiplied by a coefficient based on the number of cars at the start in the class.

With notably Luca Stolz (Black Falcon) and the AKKA-ASP drivers Raffaele Marciello, Thomas Neubauer, Jean-Luc Beaubelique and Mauro Ricci in Europe, or the Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia 2019 champion Roelof Bruins, the German manufacturer was ahead in points his opponent from Maranello, yet winner in the United States with Toni Vilander and R. Ferri Motorsports.

“My sincere thanks go to our customers and drivers for allowing us to win this title with many achievements in the SRO championships, comments Stefan Wendl, boss of Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing.

This reflects the strength of our Customer Racing program with the Mercedes-AMG GT3. Therefore, winning the Blancpain GT World Challenge Manufacturers’ title means a lot to us. We look forward to the challenge next year and will do everything we can to defend our crown. »

SRO Motorsports logically hopes to attract other manufacturers to this customer challenge in 2020.
