Michelisz and Comte win in the temple of speed

Norbert Michelisz (BRC-Hyundai Elantra) has finally opened its victory counter in 2025. The Hungarian, two-time World Tour champion, was somewhat anonymous after the first two trips (Mexico-Valencia). Without being really distanced, he was unable to truly dominate as he was this Saturday in the first race of the transalpine weekend. Michelisz won ahead of Yann Ehrlacher, despite being weighed down by 40kg of ballast following his performance in Valencia. The two-time World Cup winner (2020-2021) demonstrated his pedigree and climbed onto the second step of the podium ahead of his teammate at Cyan racing-Lynk & Co: Thed Björk.

Suffering a puncture in Race 1 when he was clearly in contention for a podium spot, Aurélien Comte took his revenge in Sunday's round. The driver from the Paris region won in his Cupra prepared by SP Compétition. Comte was patient and overtook polesitter and race leader Nestor Girolami (BRC-Hyundai). The Cupra took the lead on the 9th of the 12-lap race. Girolami, unable to keep up with Comte's pace, had to settle for second place. The final step on the podium was decided between Thed Björk (Cyan racing- Lynk & Co) and Norbert Michelisz. The two men battled it out right to the finish line, with the Swede edging the Hungarian driver by 6 seconds. Finishing in 9th place, Yann Ehrlacher secured the key victory by preserving his position as leader of the TCR World Tour. He has a 16-point lead over Esteban Guerrieri (Goat Racing-Honda Civic) and a 27-point lead over his Cyan Racing teammate Santi Urrutia.

After an excellent weekend of racing, once again (regrettably) with very sparse stands, the TCR World Tour competitors are preparing for a thrilling weekend on the Vila Real street circuit in Portugal from July 5 to 8.

It's true that the stands were quite empty on Saturday, it was a little better on Sunday but not as great as the great years of the WTCC. It must be said that media-wise, it's pretty thin in terms of support. Otherwise, it was still a great party.
