Michelle Gatting: “Inspiring many young girls and women”

Michelle, you are the first woman to win the Trofeo Pirelli. What does this do to you?

It's a big relief to win the championship, for me, but also for the whole team and for the whole project Iron Ladies. This is what we really want to show, that women are capable of performing at the same level as men and even beating them. I hope this is the first of many more championships than the Iron Ladies will win. I also hope to inspire many young girls and women, and even men, with this victory.

Two victories, seven podiums, three pole positions. This title is the reward of a great season for you…

I didn't have as many victories as I wanted, but to win a championship you have to be consistent and that's what we managed to do outside of Spa where we had a technical problem. We had a very good season and the pace we had showed that I was one of the fastest drivers. 

What is the project Iron Ladies represents for you?

The Iron Ladies represent the fact that if you are a girl and you dream of something, you can do it. Of course, it's a lot of work and that's also what I want to show. It has not been an easy journey for me, nor for others Iron Ladies of the project, we have worked a lot and we continue to do so. It's a lot of ups and downs. Any dream is achievable with hard work and dedication and that is the message we want to convey.

What are your goals for next season?

First of all, continue with Iron Lynx and the Iron Ladies. Everything is not yet decided for next year, I have an idea, but I can't talk about it yet. I think we still have a busy, but brilliant season ahead and I hope for more podiums and championships.
