The Macau Grand Prix no longer attracts Formula 3 since the Covid-19 epidemic (rather the local F4), but remains a place of choice for GT3. The Cup reserved for Grand Touring regains some of its former world luster for the 2022 edition, scheduled for November 17 to 20.

Nicknamed “Mister Macao” because of his seven victories on the merciless Guia street circuit (including two at the Macau F3 GP), Edoardo Mortara will make his return. The French-speaking driver will drive an Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II on behalf of the Team Absolute team, with the support of Audi Sport.

“After our customers in Asia remained loyal to the Macau Grand Prix during previous pandemic-ridden years, we are now delighted to see the return of Edoardo Mortara, says Chris Reinke, head of customer racing at Audi Sport. It's great to see him behind the wheel of an Audi again. We wish a warm return to Edo. »

Edoardo Mortara, who will drive a Maserati in Formula E in 2022, was previously a three-time winner of the Macau GT Cup with the Rings brand, between 2011 and 2013. Transferred to Mercedes in 2017, the Swiss-Italian recorded an additional success and podium between 2017 and 2018.

He will not be the only big name in Grand Tourism to walk the streets of Macau. The ultimate winner of the FIA GT World Cup in the former Portuguese colony, Raffaele Marciello, makes his comeback. ''Lello'' will still be at the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG, this time from the Toro Racing team.

The third European registered on the test list is Maro Engel. The German, who has just extended his Mercedes factory driver contract, will defend the interests of Craft-Bamboo Racing.

In this Macau Grand Prix, which will celebrate its 69th edition, there is only one French competitor: biker Timothée Monot, on a Yamaha R1 from the TMR team.
