Nascar: Bayne, Nationwide goal

Is Trevor Bayne, at 20 years old, mature, well advised... or both? Despite his recent victory at the Daytona 500, he prefers to concentrate on the Nationwide title rather than burn his wings too early in the Sprint Cup.

Nascar: Bayne, Nationwide goal

Others besides him would have been intoxicated by a victory, so young and with so little experience, in the most prestigious event of the year. Not Trevor Bayne. The day after his historic victory in Florida, the organizers, in view of the performance, authorized the young man to give his preference to the title of “Rookie of the Years” in the Sprint Cup, as well as a possible wild car in case of qualifying for the Chase for the Cup at the end of the season, rather than going in search of the Nationwide coronation.

A proposal to which Bayne will not follow up. “ The only thing that has changed for me is that I am now a Daytona 500 winner, an incredible feeling, he confided yesterday during a teleconference with the American press. A great season is coming up with Roush-Fenway in Nationwide. The car is still dressed all in white and I would now like to be able to attract a few partners. For the moment, in Sprint Cup, the deal with Wood Brothers covers 18 races. I have no regrets. With a 10th place last Saturday and first the next day, the season has started rather well? »

With 18 starts in the Sprint Cup and 34 in the Nationwide, a total of 52 races with the title in his sights, Trevor Bayne?s 2011 season promises to be a busy one. At 20, we still have time.

Find, in issue 1793 of AUTOhebdo, currently on newsstands, 14 pages devoted to Nascar (Daytona 500, tribute to Dale Earnhardt and meeting with Travis Pastrana).
