While the victory in Fontana (California) seemed destined for Stewart-Haas Racing, with a superb duel between Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch, it was Brad Keselowski (Team Penske) who emerged at the head of the race on the last lap after a “green white checkered flag”.
The driver of the No. 2 Ford only led one lap, but the most important one, to achieve his first success of the season ahead of the reigning champion. Richard Childress drivers Paul Menard and Ryan Newman rounded out the top five.
Joe Gibbs Racing was in a position to win but was unsuccessful with a penalty for Denny Hamlin and a broken transmission for Matt Kenseth.
