NASCAR – Dale Earnhardt Jr completes the sweep at Pocono

The sweep in American sports corresponds to a perfect series. In NBA basketball, the sweep is equivalent to winning all 4 games of a playoff series. This evening Dale Earnhardt Jr carried out the same operation by winning the second race organized on the Pocono track in Pennsylvania. After the Pocono 400, it is the GoBowling 400 which falls into the hands of the driver of the No. 88 Chevrolet SS from Hendrick Motorsports, for the third victory of his season. He thus wins more races in one year than during the period 2006-2013.

Jr resisted the final assaults of Kevin Harvick (Stewart-Haas Racing) during the last restart three laps from the goal, following a crash by Kurt Busch (Stewart-Haas Racing). Harvick tried everything but Dale Earnhardt Jr maneuvered perfectly on the Tricky Triangle at Pocono to contain the attempts of the No. 4 Chevrolet. Joey Logano (Team Penske) finished 3rd ahead of Clint Bowyer (Michael Waltrip Racing) and Greg Biffle (Roush Fenway Racing).

The race was notably marked by a Big One on lap 117, involving 14 cars including Tony Stewart (Stewart-Haas Racing), Matt Kenseth (Joe Gibbs Racing), who missed an opportunity to achieve this famous success which they lack so much in the race for the Chase. Complicated race also for Danica Patrick (Stewart-Haas Racing) who went into the wall following a first contact and a puncture, or even Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing) whose engine Toyota gave up the ghost in the first laps of the race and Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports) was once again struggling with his tires.

Find the report of the Pocono GoBowling 400 race in issue 1972 of AUTOhebdo, available tomorrow evening in digital version, and on newsstands from Wednesday.
