Nascar – Dodge confirms its departure

The announcement of this withdrawal was made during a teleconference, but Dodge did not rule out returning Nascar if the opportunity to align with a top team arises, as has been the case with Penske Racing since 2009. The American manufacturer had however started the development of the Dodge Cup for the 2013 season before taking over decision to withdraw last Friday.

« Several teams we spoke with weren't sure what they wanted, explains Gilles. In March, it was already too late to know what we were going to do the following season in order to put everything in place. And no one waited for us. If you are not ready, they move forward without you. We were there to win, not to make up the numbers.»

Brian France, the big boss of Nascar, hopes that Dodge will quickly return to the category. “ Dodge has been a super competitor in Nascar for many years. They participated in a large number of events, and wrote our history. They chose not to return in 2013, as they already did in 1977, before returning in 2001. We wish them nothing but good, and hope that they will reconsider their decision again later. »
