Lap after lap, he continues to gain valuable experience. Anthony Gandon experiences his second weekend of racing in Nascar Nationwide, a week after making his debut on the Watkins Glen road circuit. This time engaged for the new Mid-Ohio event, on a track that all drivers must discover, the young Bayonnais, from the Nascar Whelen Euro Series, has adopted a cooler strategy in order to avoid any risk of exit, as happened to him last weekend, and to prepare as best as possible for the race this Saturday evening.
Mission accomplished: after covering more than 200 km this Friday, the French driver managed to qualify in 34th position. “ It's a narrow and very winding track for our cars, there are unevenness and a few blind turns, declares the Frenchman. The technique is a little different from Watkins Glen which was very fast. I didn't force it and above all made sure I was confident with the car and kept it in perfect condition for the race. We worked well with the team without doing any specific setup for this morning's qualifying. The main objective is the race! »
Objective: top-20
A race which, according to the echoes in the paddock, promises to be rather “wild”. “Anthony did a good job, rejoices Jérome Galpin, manager of the Nascar Whelen Euro Series. He is comfortable in the car and everything is in place for the race. We will now need success to survive in this test which promises to be very hot. Our strategy is to avoid pitfalls in the first half of the race then gain momentum. A top-20 would be a great performance given the level at Nationwide.”
