Nascar – Hamlin offers Watkins Glen
Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing) scored his first victory on a road circuit at Watkins Glen (New York) in Nascar Sprint Cup. Le pilote de la Toyota n°11 est resté en tête lors des dix derniers tours en résistant à la pression de Martin Truex Jr (Furniture Row Racing) qui n’a pris que la septième place après avoir été envoyé en tête-à-queue par Brad Keselowski (Team Penske). Le champion 2012 a finalement complété le tiercé de tête derrière son coéquipier Joey Logano.
The feat is all the more impressive for Denny Hamlin as the Camry driver suffered from significant back pain.
A.J Allmendinger (JTG Daugherty Racing) and Tony Stewart (Stewart-Haas Racing) complete the top five ahead of Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing). The winner of the 2014 edition secured fourth place by sending his rival Kyle Larson (Chip Ganassi Racing) into the background at the exit of the last corner.
Jeff Gordon (Hendrick Motorsports), who replaces the recovering Dale Earnhardt Jr, finished 14th.
