Nascar – Joey Logano triples the stakes at Talladega

Joey Logano (Team Penske) dominated the “Contender Round” by signing its third victory in a row after Charlotte (North Carolina), Kansas and now Talladega (Alabama). The driver of the No. 22 Ford was declared in the lead when the stewards displayed the final yellow flag following the “Big One” which occurred during the “green-white-checkered flag”. The end of the race was particularly tense on the superspeedway, with officials having decided to limit the green-white-checkered flag to a restart for safety reasons.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. (Hendrick) thus came within a few centimeters of qualifying for the next round of the Chase. The son of the seven-time champion of the same name ranks ahead of his teammate Jeff Gordon who remains in the game even if he never won this year.

Joe Gibbs Racing loses Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth. The first saw his hopes end due to a flap on the roof of his Toyota take off causing him to lose several turns. Ryan Newman (Richard Childress Racing) is also eliminated.
