Nascar – Logano penalized after his victory at Richmond

Despite his victory last weekend at Richmond International Raceway (Virginia), Joey Logano is not yet guaranteed to compete in the Chase. The commissioners of the Nascar imposed a Level 1 penalty on the team in the No. 22 Ford following a non-compliant rear suspension detected during post-race inspections at the Research and Development Center in Concord, North Carolina.

The sanction is serious for Joey Logano and Team Penske. If the driver maintains his victory, he will be deprived of the privilege of qualifying for the Chase, which will force him to repeat his performance in one of the regular season events in order to ensure he is in the playoffs. The 5 bonus points for victory for the Chase are also canceled while the driver has had 25 points deducted (same for the owner).

The penalty does not stop there since team leader Todd Gordon received a fine of $50 (approximately €000) accompanied by a two-race suspension.

Team Penske has decided not to appeal the decision.

“We understand and accept the penalty communicated today by Nascar following the victory of the No. 22 Ford last weekend at Richmond. We are disappointed by this notification, but we will not appeal this penalty. The No. 22 team remains focused on victory by aiming for the play-offs and the title. "Race engineer Miles Stanley will replace crew chief Joey Logano for this weekend at Talldega Superspeedway, while Greg Erwin will work on race strategy on Sunday.", the team said.
